All our EPIRBs and PLBs are 406 MHz and use the COSPAS/SARSAT system satellites and are registered to BoatUS Foundation. The advantages of 406 MHZ units are worldwide coverage, position location accuracy, a reliable transmitted signal, an encoded message that identifies the distressed vessel, and faster response time. For offshore trips and excursions, a 406 MHz EPIRB for the boat and a 406 MHz PLB for crew members is the way to go. These units are accurate within 100 yards and often much closer. |

When you rent unit from us, and in the event of an activation, a unique encoded digital message is received by the satellites are then transmitted back to ground-based search and rescue authorities. This signal provides them with information to assist in the search: who you are, your boat type and size, where you are, and other important data, including the emergency contact information you provided at the time of rental. The encoded signal also performs the important function of circumventing false alarms and ensuring the fastest possible response time. |
